The Book Lady, a Canadian documentary short about Dolly’s campaign for children’s literacy, will have its US premiere at the 33rd Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) in Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, March 27.

Dolly, Miley Cyrus (Dolly’s goddaughter), Keith Urban, Canadian singer/songwriters Sarah Harmer and Justin Rutledge, and American-born Canadian children’s author Robert Munsch are featured in the documentary, which chronicles Parton’s “Imagination Library”.

“We are excited to show the The Book Lady to a US audience,” said the film’s producer Brad Horvath, who is also a juror for CIFF’s documentary film competition. “Most people are not aware that Dolly is a champion of children’s literacy or that her program is active in a thousand communities in three countries, including more than ten in Ohio.”

Parton’s “Imagination Library” mails free, age-appropriate, hardcover books each month to preschool children in participating communities in the US, Canada and the UK. “Some children even believe Dolly delivers the books herself while they are sleeping,” said the film’s director Natasha Ryan.

The Book Lady is part of CIFF’s Independent Shorts Program #10 on Friday, March 27 at 4:20 PM at Tower City Cinemas (230 West Huron Road, Cleveland).

Dolly’s upcoming children’s book I Am A Rainbow is due out May 14th from Putnam Books.
