Dolly Receives Oscar Nomination!
Thursday, February 2nd, 2006
Dolly’s Golden Globe nominated song “Travelin’ Thru” has now received an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Music, Original Song, making this only the second Oscar nomination of her career! Dolly’s song competes against Kathleen “Bird” York’s “In the Deep” from Crash and “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” by Jordan Houston, Cedric Coleman and Paul Beauregard from Hustle & Flow. Here’s what Dolly has to say about the nomination:
“I am thrilled and honored beyond belief to have been nominated for this award. It’s always great to be a part of something so special, not just the Oscars but the wonderful film Transamerica.”

“(Director) Duncan Tucker is a big fan of mine. I was on tour. I didn’t think I had time. I thought, if he’s that big a fan, I’ll give it a shot. … (But) I didn’t just half-assed do a song. I wouldn’t have let them use it if I hadn’t felt good about it.”
“This one really was a sidewinder. I didn’t know (they wanted a song) until the movie was done. They were ready to go. I had one day off on the tour, and we happened to be close by Nashville. We went right in the studio, and I got my band in and did it all in one day and mixed it the next morning. … It was quick, and it was good. It’s a different world than the one I normally live in. I’ve done a few movies, but I don’t think of myself as an actress. This was just a great honor because it happened so quick. I just hurried up and wrote.”
-Hollywood Reporter
“I knew there was a possibility, but I wasn’t really expecting it because no one’s really heard this song. It hasn’t been playing on the radio or anything. I was down at my beach cottage in Malibu cooking a country breakfast because I get homesick for country food when I’m in the city. So I was cooking biscuits and gravy and fryin’ up some Jimmy Dean sausage. I had the TV on, but it was just about the actors, so I didn’t know I got nominated until my assistant in Nashville called to say congratulations. I started hopping around my kitchen, and I think I burned half my food. No matter how long you been at it, it’s always exciting — like falling in love over and over again.”

Winners will be announced during the 78th Academy Awards live telecast March 5th on ABC.
